
The B1 Preliminary is a Cambridge English exam that tests if you have a B1 level of English, as described by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
According to the CEFR, a person with a B1 level of English can do these things:
- Understand the main points of clear, simple texts about familiar topics (work, school, free time).
- Handle most situations that happen while travelling in an English-speaking area.
- Write simple, connected text on familiar topics or personal interests.
- Describe experiences, events, dreams, and hopes. They can also give short reasons for their opinions or explain their plans.
In summary – This exam checks if you can use English comfortably in everyday situations.
Did you know?
Before 2015, this test was called the “Preliminary English Test”. Many people still call it the PET exam today.
